My method

By Cara Wood.

My aim is to support you in gaining all the information accessible to you so you can heal what need to be healed and resolve the issues you need to resolve. I work with a whole brain integration approach using techniques that allow access to information stored at all functioning levels of the brain. These frequencies of the brain are known as beta, alpha, theta and delta and each have important functions and attributes important for the healing and problem resolution process. The thing is that we actually don’t have most of what we have learnt through life available to us most of the time. Ever had the feeling that something just doesn’t feel right but you don’t know why? Ever get an intuition about someone or something? Ever react to something before you saw it happening? These things can all become explainable to us when we access the unconscious mind. The unconscious mind? To some that might sound a bit allusive right? So for those who are interested in understanding more below is a detailed explanation of what this is and what I do in more scientific terms. Our brain waves move at different frequencies which are known as beta, alpha, theta and delta. We have all of them all of the time but the task we are engaged in changes the strength of each frequency in the relevant parts of the brain. Beta is an active state and we spend most of our waking time here. My coaching methodologies as well as a proportion of the talking based therapy I offer engages the brain at the beta level.Alpha, the state of alert but at ease, is where our brain should automatically bounce back to to be in optimal emotional and physical health. However, this is the case for very few people. Most people are overstimulating beta, causing a lot of stress and need support to shift to the lower levels. The state of mental calm experienced at alpha allows for information from the unconscious mind (which is the information stored at theta and beta levels) to come into our conscious. An example of this is we are taking a nice hot shower and we suddenly have a great idea. Or we are just heading off to sleep and we suddenly find a solution for something or have an aha moment. Emotional Freedom technique has been shown to raise alpha levels so we can access the information stored at the theta level.Theta is the hub of creativity, it is where we go when we are in a flow state, whenever we do something habitually or we lose the concept of time. It is also the state where we day dream and that we enter into right before we enter and exit sleep. This level of the brain takes in all information that is available and makes associations. It can process 2 million pieces of information a second. To prevent us from living in a state of overwhelm we only stay conscious to a very small part of our experience. By comparison the conscious brain only processes 7 pieces of information a second. This is why we have a wealth of wisdom and knowledge stored at the unconscious level and why working with the unconscious mind is the most effective way to solve our problems. The information about anything you do habitually is stored at the theta level. You don’t have to look at the map and plan your route to work everyday because the route is stored at theta. It is purposeful that habitual behaviours are stored at the unconscious level because it frees up your mind to attend to other things. Imagine if you really did have to get the map out every day to plan your route to work? Then times that by all the other things we do without having to think about them. That would make life pretty difficult. The same is true however for unhelpful habits that have been created. When we repeatedly do something that impacts us negatively and can’t work out why we can’t change even though we recognise the damage that it’s causing this is because at the unconscious level there is a need for this habit to be in place. We will not be able to change these behaviours until we gain access to the information stored at the theta level. The same goes for relationship patterns. Hypnosis is a really effective tool I use to guide people to access increased states of theta to access this information and make powerful changes. Meditation and the mindfulness practices I recommend are effective for this reason. By attending to habitual things as if we were experiencing them for the first time we are signalling two things to the brain, one we can only truly pay detailed attention to things when we feel safe so it signals to our brain and body that we are safe and it calms us accordingly, bringing up our alpha levels. Secondly experiencing anything as new is signalling theta to pay attention to what needs to be learnt about this situation, again bringing in more of these lower frequencies that calm us.That takes us lastly on to delta. Delta’s frequency is in abundance when we are asleep. Delta acts like a radar which seeks to understand things that can’t be understood by thought process. It is the deepest layer of our unconscious. It is the brain wave most associated with energy healing. As we know all of the healing and regenerating within our bodies happens during sleep. The information stored at delta provides us with instinct and intuition as well as empathic attunement. The only form of therapy that I am aware of that can work at the delta level is Yoga Nidra. Also known as yogic sleep, during yoga Nidra a state is accessed where the body is at deep rest but the mind is still alert. Richard Miller is a clinical psychologist in the USA widely known for his i-rest program. A program based on yoga nidra which he has used extensively in the military with PTSD patients having spectacular results. It is not always necessarily to use all levels to get the results you want. Each situation is unique and sometimes a bit of extra awareness is all that is needed. However, having the ability to integrate all these tools gives the possibility to get to all levels to uncover the information that is best going to support you.Note: Those who are particularly interested in brain functioning may also be interested to hear about gama. Another frequency of brain wave which washes over the brain from time to time, believed to have the purpose of integrating processing. Some interesting studies have found a link between gama and profound spiritual and enlightening experiences. Feel free to have a google and find out more.
